Hall D
Austria’s largest event venue was built between 1954 and 1957 based on designs created by world-famous architect Roland Rainer. It opened on 21 June 1958. Hall D, which holds up to 16,000 people, has been the centrepiece of the facility ever since. At 92m in length, 17m high and with flexible stage elements, the hall is unbelievably versatile, with a wide variety of possible set-ups. The roof has an area of 10,000m2 – the largest of any entertainment venue in Austria – while inside, the ceiling can hold some 100 tonnes of technical equipment for cutting-edge, large-scale events. “A UFO has landed in Vienna” was the headline that greeted the opening of Wiener Stadthalle in 1958. Over 60 years later, Roland Rainer’s unique architectural design has stood the test of time and still provides a fitting backdrop for an almost unlimited range of events – from concerts, fairs and sporting events to TV shows and corporate functions.
